CentraleSupélec's "Shift Year" is a one-year program focused on sustainable development, with an interdisciplinary and operational approach.
It allows students to understand and take action in the face of major ecological, social and economic challenges, by collaborating with professionals and industrial partners.
A path towards sustainable transitions
This is a “pioneering” training course offered by CentraleSupélec to provide a concrete understanding of upcoming transitions in terms of sustainable development.
It is characterized by:
- A cross-cutting and systemic approach to major ecological, social, geopolitical, economic and technological issues
- A very operational approach: ¾ of the training consists of meeting the expectations of professionals, industrial partners, communities, etc. Many on-site visits during the training and discussions with professionals from sectors affected by the ecological transition
- Interdisciplinary work: training open to students from different disciplines and with varied backgrounds and skills.

- Prepare to act in a more relevant, effective and convincing manner in public and private organizations, for a sustainable, ethical and united future
- Finding meaning in one's actions
- Using interdisciplinarity, collective intelligence, and a systemic approach to address complexity and transitions
Program
A dense program with the participation of many renowned experts, which is made up of two semesters: September - February / March - August

September - February
- Theoretical knowledge with technological, economic, social, geopolitical and environmental dimensions understood in a cross-disciplinary manner.
- Introductory seminar: the world system and its subsystems
- Focus on the major issues: energy, water, health, alternative economic approaches, etc.
- Mastery of transition and change processes: postures, methods and tools relating to the emergence of collective intelligence: debates, controversies, co-construction, etc.
- A concrete mission, originating from a public or private client, consisting of a strategic or prospective study mobilizing several disciplinary fields and carried out by a team made up of complementary profiles.
- Theoretical knowledge with technological, economic, social, geopolitical and environmental dimensions understood in a cross-disciplinary manner.

March - August
- A long internship within an organization working towards responsible development. To implement the acquired knowledge from the transition semester (knowledge, methods, skills) in order to lead:
- Sustainable, ethical and supportive actions
- A systemic analysis of a professional context with a view to identifying opportunities and obstacles to the transition process.

Registration fees
- €1750 registration fee for students residing in the European Union – possibility of support from the CentraleSupélec foundation - free for scholarship holders
- €2950 registration fee for students residing outside the European Union
