  • The Paris-Saclay (Gif) campus of the School hosted the official launch day of theDataIA Convergence Institute.

    The DATAIA Institute is the Convergence Institute dedicated to data science and its socio-economic challenges in France. It brings together the most of the actors of the Saclay plateau, Grandes Ecoles, universities, laboratorys.

    Its purpose is to bring together and structure, on a scientific site, large-scale, high-profile multidisciplinary expertise around a subject representing scientific challenges with significant socio-economic implications. The objectives are to develop an integrative vision in cutting-edge research coupled with excellent training and to boost relations between the academic and industrial worlds.

    Following two calls for proposals, ten convergence institutes were selected across all disciplines on topics such as Climate, Health, Agriculture, Migration, etc. The DATAIA Institute for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Society brings together 130 teacher-researchers. Due to the ambition of its scientific program and the scope of its activities and international relations, it was identified by the international jury as the French interdisciplinary center for data science and artificial intelligence, with its interfaces with both the humanities and social sciences, as well as application fields.

    Funded by theNational Research Agency (ANR) as part of the "Investments for the Future" program, the DATAIA Institute must:

    • bring together, in a partnership organized in a given place, diverse research skills aimed at producing new knowledge through the joint mobilization of different disciplinary skills;
    • develop, in connection with this interdisciplinary research, innovative training of excellence at master's and doctoral levels, in initial training as well as in continuing education;
    • to deploy over time a dynamic of structuring around the main challenge of the center, supported by a high international level scientific ambition, on a real scientific employment strategy and on simple and effective governance.
