The CentraleSupélec Industrial Engineering Laboratory is organized into four teams working on the following subjects:

 

Design Engineering

The Design Engineering team is interested in design activities for goods and services production companies, not only from the point of view of the design process but to model, analyze (simulate and evaluate) and develop design systems. further information

Decision Support for Goods and Services Systems

This research topic concerns the optimization of goods and services production and distribution systems. We are interested in all decision-making activities related to this issue of optimization, from the design of such systems to their control/management in the short term, including planning activities.

Risk Management in Complex Projects

  • Research is focused around three key words: Risk, Complexity and Decision. Applications are on a mono- and multi-project level, mainly in industrial organizations, and engineering or development projects (goods and services), as well as internal transformation projects.
  • The application challenge is to help managers in the project to make decisions that lead them towards achieving their objectives, while best managing the risks that could hinder these objectives.
  • The scientific challenge is to model the complexity of the project/multi-project system in order to better manage the negative and positive risks induced by this complexity. These include simulating possible behaviors of the system, depending on certain conditions (sustained events or voluntary decisions), in order to diagnose project vulnerability. Next, decision support is provided to best reduce this vulnerability and ensure satisfactory objectives are obtained for the company, for example, by optimizing the constitution of temporary groups or by establishing a risk reduction action plan with multi-criteria. A final challenge is deciding where to act within the system to try to reduce the negative or unwanted part of the complexity.  further information

Sustainable Economy

The team aims to build models that can be implemented in a context where current industrial and energy, financial and economic crises signal the end of a quantitative growth model, and the emergence of a new economy based on knowledge, innovation, and quality, as the key resources. The convergence of approaches for economic and management sciences is needed to study these new economic and managerial models.  further information

Cross-disciplinary Projects

LGI research activities use the expertise of members from various teams in the laboratory on various research topics. These cross-disciplinary projects establish and make the cross-disciplinary aspect of scientific challenges a reality in the laboratory - further information -

Ten industrial industrial partnerships and two partner research institutes complement and reinforce the four Laboratoire de Génie Industriel research groups.

Fields of Application

The Laboratoire de Génie Industriel (LGI) develops decision support methods and optimization of the design and management of products, services and industrial and logistics systems, regardless of their sector (aerospace, automotive, energy, health, etc.).

The laboratory’s research is applicable to organization, management and execution methods in the design, production and distribution of goods and services, throughout their lifecycle.

Its purpose is to provide businesses with the necessary methods to improve their competitiveness in terms of performance and value creation. The applications are for goods and equipment supply companies as well as service companies.
