AgriWalue: a New French-Brazilian Laboratory for a Circular Bioeconomy

CentraleSupélec is joining forces with AgroParisTech, Université Paris-Saclay, INRAE, and the University of São Paulo to launch AgriWalue (Valorisation of Agricultural and Agro-industrial By-Products and Wastes Towards Circular Bioeconomy), an international laboratory dedicated to the valorization of agricultural and agri-food by-products and wastes.

  • Officially inaugurated on January 23, 2026, for a five-year period, the laboratory aims to transform resources that are often considered waste into high-value-added products, thereby contributing to the development of a sustainable circular bioeconomy.

The project is structured around three complementary pillars: developing innovative processing technologies, creating high-value-added bio-based products et and integrating these solutions into environmentally friendly processes.

Within this framework, the Biotechnology Chair of CentraleSupélec, affiliated with the LGPM laboratory and engaged in cutting-edge research on renewable carbon, will contribute its expertise in bio-based products, advanced scientific instrumentation, and digital twin approaches to support the industrial scale-up of the solutions developed within the AgriWalue laboratory.

Led by Giana Almeida (AgroParisTech) and Milena Martelli (University of São Paulo), AgriWalue serves as both a scientific and educational cooperation platform, bringing together French and Brazilian teams from USP – Universidade de São Paulo, AgroParisTech, INRAE, Université Paris-Saclay, and CentraleSupélec.
This interdisciplinary and international framework promotes mobility, co-supervision of doctoral theses, and international training programs, offering students, PhD candidates, and researchers enhanced opportunities for scientific and professional development.

This new laboratory fully aligns with CentraleSupélec’s international partnership strategy by sustainably strengthening scientific cooperation with Brazil, a key partner for research and innovation in the bioeconomy. It also represents a significant opportunity to consolidate ties with the institutions of Université Paris-Saclay, fostering strengthened synergies between research, education, and innovation around the challenges of the circular bioeconomy and the valorization of agricultural resources.
