CentraleSupélec French debating champion

The CentraleSupélec team won the prestigious French Debating Association English debate tournament for the first time, held on April 10, 2025, at the Hôtel de Lassay, home of the National Assembly. This historic victory recognizes the oratorical excellence of the school's engineering students.

  • The final of the prestigious English debate tournament of the French Debating Association (FDA) was held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at theHôtel de Lassay in the National Assembly. For the first time in its history, thee CentraleSupélec Debate Club has become French champion! Congratulations to the entire team of engineering students, namely: Colombe Archambaud, Mathis Dubordeaux, Shabbir Houssenaly, Anas Lecaillon, Capucine Leroy, Casimir Najsztat, Gabriel Rochette and Charlie Ye.

    The FDA (FDA) is an annual English-language debating competition founded in 1993 with just four teams, and now includes 17 major schools and universities. Inspired by British parliamentary debates, the tournament consists of several rounds in which participating teams debate a motion, with speakers from the "proposition" and "opposition" sides taking turns defending their positions with prepared six-minute speeches, before allowing more room for improvisation and rhetorical games to captivate the audience and convince the jury.

    Supervised by Divya Madhavan, Director of the Languages ​​Department at CentraleSupélec and debate coach, CSDebating at CentraleSupélec includes two debate teams: a Bachelors team from the Global Engineering program in partnership with McGill University, and a Grande École team that participated in the FDA tournament.

    Le Debate Club of the University of Paris-Saclay, a valiant finalist of the event, was made up of students from the Faculty of Sciences of Orsay and Institute of Optics Graduate SchoolCongratulations to student Alex Scofield Teruel, winner of the Best Speaker medal.
